Gabriel Jesus hugs Edu as Brazilian pictured arriving for Arsenal medical ahead of £45m transfer from Man City
Gabriel Jesus has been pictured undergoing his medical at Arsenal.
The Brazil forward has agreed a £45million move from Man City and was in London on Tuesday to put the finishing touches to the deal.
He was seen hugging fellow Brazilian Edu – Arsenal’s technical director – as he arrived for tests at a London hospital.
Personal terms are also understood to already have been agreed and he will become the highest -paid player at the club.
He will pen a five-year deal with Arsenal as Mikel Arteta lands one of his top summer targets.
It will also reunite Arteta with the striker, having spent time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at City.
Jesus was keen to leave the Etihad following the club’s signing of Erling Haaland, meaning his chances of first-team football were greatly diminished.
He was signed for £27m from Palmeiras in 2017 and was viewed as the long-term successor to Sergio Aguero.
The striker scored 95 goals in 236 appearances at the club, winning 10 trophies, including four Premier League titles.
Guardiola never seemed convinced that Jesus could be his out-and-out striker, often opting to play without a recognised number nine last season.
For Arsenal, it greatly improves their attacking options following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January and Alexandre Lacazette on a free transfer this summer.
Jesus will become the fourth signing made by Arsenal in the close season.
United States international goalkeeper Matt Turner, young Brazilian forward Marquinhos and Portugal Under-21 international midfielder Fabio Vieira have all joined this summer.
Arsenal are also eyeing a deal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez,
talkSPORT understands the Gunners have tabled a bid worth £35m for the 24-year-old Argentine and have moved ahead of Man United in the race to sign him.
